Teen Summer Reading Program
“Make Waves at Your Library”
Tuesday, July 6th – Saturday, August 14th
FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 7-12


Weekly Puzzles! Big Book Bonus Prizes! Online Scavenger Hunt! Bookmark Contest! Amazing Programs!
At registration each teen will receive a packet filled with fun stuff, 20 raffle tickets and a Reading Activity chart. Your chart will stay at the Library – each time you finish a Reading Activity just stop by the library and write it on your chart. Fill out a raffle ticket for each Reading Activity that you complete! You choose which prize basket that you want to try and win and drop the raffle ticket into that box.
The more Reading Activities you do – the more chances you have to win one of our fabulous prize boxes! Once you have completed 20 Reading Activities you automatically win a prize from the treasure box!

Every wonder what it would be like to be locked in the library after hours? Well now is your chance! Join us for our second annual West Islip Library Lock-In! Food, trivia, karaoke, games, scavenger hunt, Wii, movies & much more are on the agenda! Bring your friends for an unforgettable night!

LEGO Contest

Attention 7-8th graders!
Join us for our second team Lego Contest. Each team will be given the opportunity to create a Lego work of art and win cool prizes!

Dream Catcher Craft

$4.00 per person material fee
We are making a Dream Catcher that will catch all your good dreams. Linda Reilly will use wire, colorful beads, ribbons, string and feathers. Join us and have some fun crafting with friends!

Balloon Powered Vehicle

During this challenging and creative program, participants will build their very own vehicle powered by balloon motor!

Teen Yoga

Yoga, which is becoming increasingly popular for teenagers, is all about balance, strength, and harmony. Not only is yoga good for you physically, but it promotes relaxation and an overall sense of well being. Bring a yoga mat.

Starlab

In this inflatable planetarium, you will explore the night sky and learn to recognize and name constellations.

Teens Night Out: Rubber Ducky Time

20th Century Pop Art

Make your own pop-art masterpiece! Learn about the 1960’s craze of pop-art and then make your own serigraph stencil to silkscreen on paper.

Computer Animation

Learn how to use your computer to create web-based computer animation. Create and edit animated GIFs, stick figures and much more.

Teen Sidewalk Art Contest
Monday, August 23
11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
Each teen will be given a “square” on the library sidewalk to create his/her very own masterpiece! Library will supply colorful chalk. The most creative “square” will win a special prize. (Rain date: Tuesday, August 24th)

Zumba for Teens

Today’s teens spend less and less time exercising and more time watching TV or playing computer games. This class introduces them to dance and shows them how body, rhythm, movement, creativity, and feelings work together to become and art!

Are you entering grades 7-12 and need community service? Join us on Friday mornings for a special program where you will read and share stories with younger children. A wonderful experience and great way to earn volunteer credit! Sign up at the Adult Reference Desk.

SAT Preparation Workshop

FEE: $85.00 payable by check to Greg Walsh
Develop skills and strategies to help raise your SAT test scores. This indispensible 4-week course is instructed by NYS certified English and Math teachers.

Teens & Tweens Volunteer: Project Pillow

Teens & Tweens Volunteer: Project Pillow
On August 25th West Islip teens and tweens got together and made tie pillows to be donated to Good Samaritan Hospital emergency room. These pillows will be given to bring comfort to children in the hospital. We had over 40 volunteers who made 100 pillows!
