Teen Summer Reading Program
“Make Waves at Your Library”
Tuesday, July 6th – Saturday, August 14th
FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 7-12


Weekly Puzzles! Big Book Bonus Prizes! Online Scavenger Hunt! Bookmark Contest! Amazing Programs!
At registration each teen will receive a packet filled with fun stuff, 20 raffle tickets and a Reading Activity chart. Your chart will stay at the Library – each time you finish a Reading Activity just stop by the library and write it on your chart. Fill out a raffle ticket for each Reading Activity that you complete! You choose which prize basket that you want to try and win and drop the raffle ticket into that box.
The more Reading Activities you do – the more chances you have to win one of our fabulous prize boxes! Once you have completed 20 Reading Activities you automatically win a prize from the treasure box!

We are making a Dream Catcher that will catch all your good dreams. Linda Reilly will use wire, colorful beads, ribbons, string and feathers. Join us and have some fun crafting with friends!

Balloon Powered Vehicle

Make your own pop-art masterpiece! Learn about the 1960’s craze of pop-art and then make your own serigraph stencil to silkscreen on paper.

Computer Animation

Learn how to use your computer to create web-based computer animation. Create and edit animated GIFs, stick figures and much more.

Teen Sidewalk Art Contest

Each teen will be given a “square” on the library sidewalk to create his/her very own masterpiece! Library will supply colorful chalk. The most creative “square” will win a special prize. (Rain date: Tuesday, August 24th)

Please join us for an evening enjoying the creative efforts of West Islip’s own high school student filmmakers. The festival seeks to inspire talented young filmmakers to pursue their passion as well as share their work with the community. Refreshments will be served. Spa Slumber Party

Regents Review Class in Living Environment: Biology

This class will consist of two sessions and will be taught by an experienced, NYS Certified Living Environment: Biology teacher. The purpose of the class will be to help students review for and study for the NYS Regents Exam. Course topics and required lab experiments will be covered through review sheets and practice questions. Students will receive review materials and handouts.

Regents Review Class in Physical Setting: Chemistry

This class will consist of two sessions and will be taught by an experienced, NYS Certified Physical Setting: Chemistry Teacher. The purpose of the class will be to help students review for and study for the NYS Regents Exam. Course topics will be covered through review sheets and practice questions. Students will receive review materials and handouts.

Teens & Tweens Volunteer: Project Pillow

Teens & Tweens Volunteer: Project Pillow
On August 25th West Islip teens and tweens got together and made tie pillows to be donated to Good Samaritan Hospital emergency room. These pillows will be given to bring comfort to children in the hospital. We had over 40 volunteers who made 100 pillows!
